Oktoberfest is more than a beer-soaked festival in Munich. For Lufthansa, it's a chance to dress up its cabin crews in traditional Bavarian style, and this year the airline is pulling out all the stops with a brand-new uniform collection.

The 2026 edition marks two decades since Lufthansa first sent a long-haul crew to New York wearing lederhosen and dirndls. To celebrate, the airline teamed up with Lower Bavarian manufacturer Spieth & Wensky to create outfits that blend regional heritage with the carrier's sleek corporate identity. Think knitwear with crane-embossed buttons, skirts and waistcoats patterned with Lufthansa's signature wing motif, and a look that feels both festive and professional.

Heiko Reitz, Lufthansa Airlines Executive Board Member and Hub Manager Munich, called the new design a continuation of the airline's beloved Oktoberfest tradition. The uniforms made their debut on 19 September, just as the festival kicked off, aboard flights from Munich to Bangalore and Beijing. A third themed service to Singapore follows on 27 September.

But the celebration doesn't stop at the runway. Throughout September, select intercontinental flights from Munich and Frankfurt will serve Bavarian-inspired dishes in every cabin class. Expect white-sausage terrine with pretzels, Wiesn roast duck, fried chicken, and apple strudel. Business Class passengers on continental routes can also enjoy an Oktoberfest menu from 17 September through 6 October.

If you're not flying, you can still get a taste of the festivities. Lufthansa lounges across Germany are decking out with Bavarian beers, regional snacks, and festive decor during the festival period. And for those heading long-haul from Germany, the airline has redesigned its amenity kits for First, Business, and Premium Economy passengers. Until the end of September, travelers will receive felt pouches designed to double as Oktoberfest accessories, filled with travel essentials and hygiene products.

This isn't Lufthansa's first foray into seasonal flair. The airline has a history of creative campaigns, from clever clothing campaigns to a bold new look for its centenary. And with its recent expansion into Italy, the carrier is clearly thinking big.

For travelers, the Oktoberfest flights are a fun way to kick off a trip to Munich, where the real festival awaits. And if you're not booked on one of the themed services, you can still enjoy the seasonal menus and lounge perks. Just remember to raise a stein to Lufthansa for keeping tradition alive at 35,000 feet.
