Airlines for America (A4A), the industry's main advocacy group, has issued a stark warning. Permanent daylight saving time, they say, would trigger "considerable implications for aviation" ranging from passenger disruption to crew positioning chaos and international connectivity nightmares. The catch: this isn't like the twice-yearly clock changes airlines already manage. Those are predictable, scheduled, and handled with existing systems.

A permanent shift would be different. Aviation analyst Henry Harteveldt explained to VOZ how deeply this affects the industry: booking systems, maintenance schedules, crew assignments, and international coordination all depend on precise, synchronized timekeeping. Without proper preparation, technical failures could "multiply on an unprecedented scale." Airlines aren't being dramatic here. A real-world example from 2023 illustrates the risk. When Lebanon's government suddenly delayed its daylight saving time transition, then reversed the decision days later, Middle East Airlines was forced to scramble.
